Nutrition
The Public Health Nutrition Program provides services for the three northern health authorities such as:
- School nutrition support
- Promoting nutrition as a part of a healthy lifestyle for all ages and to prevent diseases, such as diabetes, cancer and heart disease
- Canada Prenatal Nutrition Program support, including pre/post natal assessments, promotion of breastfeeding
- Community nutrition program support, including gardening, Good Food Box programs, after school youth program
- Prenatal nutrition support through cooking classes
- Training and consultation to health care providers, schools, community groups
- Advocacy to help make healthy food choices more available
- Involvement in the development of provincial resources and standards around nutrition
